Crazy Summer Hawaii Party

Bac Han …

A Short Note From Non-alumni Friends

Hi Tanya,

If your 87 year old mother-in-law was dancing then you must know that we did have a lot of fun. Please tell your friends that they did a great job ! They created moments that could not repeat !

We were very impressed seeing the shows put up by the talented dancers ( male and female ).

It needed a tremendous work force to organize such a big event .( decorations, shows, tournaments , finding a restaurant , invitations .... )

We could see a perfect team work which dedicated a lot of time to create such a memorable reunion !

You guys are really fun and energetic.

Bravo !

Thanks,

Xiu Ha and Cuong

Hi All Good Friends From Duc-Tri,

How is everyone doing? I believe everyone is now back to normal daily  activities, but the echo and the mood of the fantastic Duc-Tri's party  which is called " Crazy Summer Hawaii Party " still remains deeply in everyone's heart.

I, myself was so excited and extremely happy to meet many friends whom I  have not seen for so many years, and unfortunately some of them had  missed the first Duc-Tri's party in L.A; therefore,  they insisted not to miss this one. I have talked to many Duc-Tri's  alumni during the party and at the park, and they were overwhelmed and  surprised for the success of the party. I can see everyone at the party was so excited, happy and really enjoyed from the minute they came until the  party ended.

On behalf of northern Duc-Tri's alumni, we would  like to expressed our thankfulness to northern and southern alumni who  had contributed actively and helped putting this party together for our  community, and we were so grateful for those friends who had flown and  driven a long distance, and had spent your valuable time meeting friends in San Jose. Your presences were the great inspiration and encouragement for local friends gather together with full of joy.

Among friends at the party, we have recognized a  few new faces whom are not Duc-Tri's alumni, but had contributed actively to the success of the party, such as Hung Ta, Bac Han, Yee Pho and Ngo  Khon Bo. Thank you all of you for the interest and pleasure in joining our  lovely Duc-Tri's community.

Thank you Hung for putting together such a great slide show so quick. It was a beautiful and meaningful one.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our North Cal friends for your warm hospitality.

Our journey started out from home. Our three vans gathered at Banh Mi Cali in San Gabriel at around 9:00AM. After everyone had arrived, we got on the freeway and headed to San Jose . Around 4:00PM, we met up with Paul, Loc, and Ai-Ping at a Burger King where they came and took us to Kim-Son Temple . It was in a serene environment really fit for a temple or a luxury vacation” spot. We enjoyed a €œmini concert€ performed by the monks and a light vegetarian dinner there. After giving some donations to the temple, we checked in our hotel at the Dolce Hayes  Mansion and then headed to Hung Ta's house. There we got an extravaganza welcome with a host of cameras, welcoming signs and a line of friends welcoming us to his house and San Jose . We felt like Hollywood stars walking down the red carpet heading to the academy award!

After the delicious chao ca€ by Phung and the yummy deserts from Lien and other friends, we practiced the group song and line dance. We also had a brief discussion of the ping-pong tournament and roles of each MC and ended the evening with the fun bamboo dance. Hung Ta was a pro. No body could match his technique in this dance.

The next morning, Paul escorted us to bun bo Hue and shopping. After securing our stomachs and putting on our blue shirts, we headed to the ping-pong tournament. From the parking lot to the tournament site was a little confusing but we eventually got there. All the players were fit and ready. I was surprised how well our team played but we lost anyway. Who cares, it was a fun game. After the tournament, we went back to the hotel to beautify ourselves and head to the main activity of the trip, the “Hawaii Crazy Party.  After a few missed turns (our van only), we got to the party around 5:30PM, in time for the photo ops with the tropical decorations and friends. The guests all dressed up in colorful Hawaiian outfits and exotic leis and other accessories. The program for the evening was rich and full of excitement. It started out with the ‘VIP” entering the party in style, followed with the introduction by MCs Yee, Paula, and Kathy and the moving speech by Tanya. The main performance of the party includes the Macarena line dance by the handsome North Cal guys, lead by Bo?, the graceful Hawaiian dance by gorgeous North Cal ladies, lead by Jennifer Chau. Our South Cal  contribution to the program was the upbeat line dance “Nobody but you” in the sexy grass skirt lead by Annie Banh. Other great performances include speech by the kids in stunning Chinese costume, songs by our North and South Cal  friends. Loc stole the show with his Michael Jackson€ game. Unfortunately, I had failed to convince the jury to award the winning price to my husband Minh Tu . In my opinion, he should have won the game for his efforts JJJ!

Sunday Morning, we ventured out to the mall near by, tried out some Vietnamese's dishes for breakfast and then headed to the picnic atEd Levin County Park. We were only a few steps behind Ai-ping and Loc who were busy setting up the site. There were plenty of food and drinks. Of course there were games, many games as well. Everyone enjoyed being part of the games or watching the games. The funniest game was “passing the ball and run”. There were 5 or 6 teams with 5 members each. The first person passed the ball in between the legs to the last person in line. The last person would catch the ball and run around the hoop placed about 5 yards away and back to the team and pass the ball the last one in line. One of our team members ran with the ball and got disoriented and could not find his team on the way back. I wished there were cameras that caught his confused and panic face! We should have won the game by being the last to finish.

After the picnic, we got back to the hotel and got ready for another party at Lien and Yee's house. Their house was located a little uphill in San Carlos . There were lots of food and drinks again. It appears that they had brought the entire “Hawaii Crazy Party” guests over to their house that evening. We actually occupied the entire block or more with our cars on both sides of the street. Their two little cute dogs were terrified with all the humans that almost stepped on them many times during the evening. The party ended with loud karaoke that almost blasted their windows!

On the last day, Chau Bich Le and Hung invited us to their house for brunch. Their beautiful house sits on the hill with an awesome view and landscape. It features a spacious outdoor kitchen with built-in grill and other luxury equipments. There were also koi pond and other water features. A parade of food included bun, pho, BBQ and delicious home made deserts welcomed us to the party. Besides enjoying the food and the company, the guests were busy taking pictures left and right under the baking sun. Their kids must be wondering who all these aliens were that invaded their house that morning.

Our trip back to LA was a smooth one. We stopped by Hai-nan Association in El Monte for dinner. After leaving some donation for the temple, we headed back home by 8:00PM.

The trip was full of excitement and fun. Thanks to all our good friends Loc, Ai-Ping, Hung, Phung, Paul, Paula, An, Dung, Yee, Lien, Jennifer Chau, Bo, Ty and all others for putting together such a great party. We also thank Hung & Phung, Lien and Yee, Bich-le and Hung for their warm hospitality at their houses. Our thanks are also extended to Paul and all the photographers for covering the entire 4-days activities with pictures and videos. We are looking forward to seeing the complete memory of our trip on-line.

Thank you all again and again.

Kathy and all our Southern Cal friends
